As the first in what we intend to be a series of meetings, The First Mexico/USA Logic Fest brings together logicians of the two countries, Mexico and the United States, and worldwide friends in order to join forces in research by exchanging ideas, creating graduate student exchange networks and otherwise collaborating.
We take as our model multi-modal exchange networks such as the European Set Theory Society, some of whose officers are participants here. Logic is a broad subject, so we will emphasize set theory in this first meeting, the field of set theory being a particular strength of the logic discipline in both countries.
Recent dramatic advances in set theory originating in both Mexico and the United States make a meeting devoted to: forcing, large cardinals, side conditions, infinitary combinatorics, strong logics, among other topics, particularly timely, and will further the goal of bringing experts in the field together with promising junior mathematicians.
The meeting will also reach beyond set theory to include logicians working in other areas of logic. To this end, a certain number of talks will be devoted to computability theory, proof theory, model theory, and applications to number theory.
ITAM, Mexico City (in the historic neighborhood of San Angel).
This first meeting takes place over 4 days, from Wednesday the 10th to Saturday the 13th of January 2018, with a schedule that includes 17 talks. The rest of the time will be devoted to doing mathematics, as well as to discussing how to strengthen the scientific links between Mexico and the United States. On Saturday 13th, after a couple of talks, we will also have a small excursion.
